Primordial Stresses: And how to dissolve them
Body Awareness, Cont.
I'm interested in traumas: how they got into me and how I can get them out. In the next few posts, I'll tell you what I’ve learned about those semi-sentient entities that get inside us and shut down our natural, happy song.
First, where do they come from—those that overwhelm us, damage us. When I was in India, 1988 or so, Maharishi talked about the deepest stresses—our Primordial Stresses he called them—and how to dissolve them. (This is from my memory, not exact words).
He said the primordial stresses—those that kidnap us for life—usually strike us when we are very young. Importantly, their physical expressions tend to accumulate in the spine—especially the upper part of the spine. Those deep stresses may come from:
Terrible fear
Unbearable humiliation
Bitter disappointment
Rejection
Doubt
I related to them all. In fact, I realized many shocks I’d had were combinations of two or three of them in one blow: think of romantic rebuff or fear of being 'cancelled' by peers. Hard to handle those cruel emotional explosions.
So, he said, put your attention on your body and locate that stress, wherever it is—maybe a head pressure or stomach contraction or whatever. Find that agitation and just FLOOD it with bliss. Flood the pain with bliss.
He used an analogy: When a stream gets clogged in winter with trees and rocks and dirt, the water does not flow. But when spring comes and the mountain snow melts, the water comes flooding down the stream and washes the debris to the sea. Like that, flood the stress with bliss and wash it away.
I hope you try it.
This is like the Philosopher’s Stone.
Turn iron into gold, pure gold.
As it should be.
